Spiro Theodore Agnew (November 9, 1918 – September 17, 1996) was the 39th vice president of the United States from 1969 until his resignation in 1973. He is the second and most recent vice president to resign the position, the other being John C. Calhoun in 1832. Unlike Calhoun, Agnew resigned as a result of a scandal. Ronald Harold Nessen was born on May 25, 1934 in Washington, D.C. From 1952 to 1954, he was a student at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West Virginia and a radio newscaster for WEPM in Martinsburg, West Virginia. From 1954 to 1955 he was a radio newscaster for WARL in Arlington, Virginia, and from 1955 to 1956 he was a writer for the Montgomery County Sentinel in Rockville, Maryland.
